Advanced Academy of Sleep Medicine Presents
Accredited 80-Hour Course for RPSGT Certification
Dr. Anuj Chandra, Director of the Advanced Center for Sleep Disorders, recently offered an introductory course for members of his staff to become certified as sleep technicians.
The 80-hour A-STEP training course is the first step to becoming certified to perform sleep diagnostic tests. The course was held at the Advanced Center for Sleep Disorders, located at 6073 East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga.
A-STEP is a two-part training initiative developed and endorsed by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine to prepare candidates for certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT). After completing the 80-hour A-STEP Introductory Course, candidates for certification are currently required to complete an additional 18 A-STEP course modules online and work six months in a sleep center.
In the future, Dr. Chandra plans to offer the A-STEP course to members of the general public who want to become certified sleep technicians. For more information, call 423-648-8008 or email advancedacademysleep@gmail.com.
“There is a shortage of well trained sleep technicians in the area. If we can have more good sleep techs, that makes it easier for people with sleep disorders to go though diagnostic testing and begin getting the treatment they need to get better,” said Dr. Chandra.
In addition to Dr. Anuj Chandra, instructors included co-director Dr. Lotika Pandit; Saira Naseer, who is both an M.D. and a registered sleep tech; sleep tech Joel Pollom; and other registered polysomnographic technicians.
“Offering this course is one more step toward making Chattanooga and the surrounding area the best slept city in the nation,” added Dr. Chandra.
