U.S Organization Preparing to Offer Sleep Medicine Board Certification;
Chattanooga sleep specialist Dr. Anuj Chandra, who has been a leader in bringing cutting edge sleep medicine to India, has announced that am American organization is preparing to offer board certification for sleep medicine in India.
During the conference, it was announced that the American Academy of Sleep Medicine is working with organizers of the National Sleep Medicine Course to arrange for administration of sleep medicine board certification tests in India. “This means that physicians in India will be able take the boards and achieve the status of being board certified. This is a huge advance for the profession of sleep medicine in India,” said Dr. Chandra, who serves as Assistant Program Director for the Course.
Dr. Chandra shared the news as he was returning to Chattanooga after serving as faculty for the Fifth National Sleep Medicine Course, a joint venture of American, Indian and Japanese sleep specialists to provide professional education in sleep medicine for Indian physicians. This year’s conference was held Dec. 11 and 12 in the southern Indian city of Trivandrum.
“The AASM is the certifying organization for most medical specialties in the United States,” he added. “We are honored that the American Academy of Sleep Medicine has asked to collaborate with us to administer this exam. They are responding to the growing demand for sleep medicine and the growing knowledge base among doctors in India. The National Sleep Medicine Course has been instrumental in developing this field in India, so the AASM is working with us to establish a presence for themselves here.”
