A-STEP is a two-part training initiative developed and endorsed by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) to prepare candidates for certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT). After completing the 80-hour A-STEP Introductory Course, candidates for certification are currently required to complete an additional 18 A-STEP course modules online and work six months in a sleep center.
Dr. Anuj Chandra, Director of the Advanced Center for Sleep Disorders, created the Advanced Academy of Sleep Medicine to train people who want to become certified as sleep technicians.
The first A-STEP Introductory Course was offered in May as a free service for members of Dr. Chandra's staff. In the future, Dr. Chandra plans to offer the A-STEP course to anyone who wants to become a certified sleep technician.
